ART & I

The term TanzBilder, or dance images, refers to a combination of dance and visual arts, both in my personal artistic practice and in the artistic processes (workshops) I facilitate. These gatherings offer a simultaneously playful and experimental setting that makes space for creative drives, so that everyone involved can explore and develop their artistic potential.

I’ve been passionate about movement and dance for as long as I can remember. To follow my dancing dreams, I first started taking ballet classes at a young age. Over time, I realized that the classical ballet route wasn’t for me. Instead, I immersed myself in the art of tailoring, letting my hands dance in their own unique way.

While studying at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna, I met the dancer and dance educator Claire Filmon in 2011/12. She was a student and collaborator of visual artist Simone Forti. Filmon’s artistic and pedagogical approach introduced me to the world of movement and dance improvisation. Her method, characterized by a combination of trust and precision, was the start of my journey towards my own movement practice. In working with Claire Filmon, I found what I had been searching for since childhood: an appreciation of the movement that arises both within and from me, taking into account all the experiences and influences that shaped me.

Following my work with Clare Filmon, I expanded my understanding of movement and the performing arts at what is now the Music and Arts University of the City of Vienna under Professor Nikolaus Selimov and dance educator and choreographer Manfred Aichinger.

Another key encounter with a free, inspiring, and experimental approach to art education came in the form of a drawing seminar taught by Professor Emma Rendl Denk. It was under her tutelage at the painting department of the University of Applied Arts Vienna that I bridged the gap between my dance and movement practices and the visual arts, laying the groundwork for what are now my TanzBilder. The experience with Prof. Denk was crucial to both my artistic development and the genesis of my dance images.

We stayed in contact over the following years. I also travelled to France to visit Claire Filmon and participated in workshops focusing on artistic creation, contact improvisation, and real-time composition. This was the next step in the development of my TanzBilder.

In autumn 2022, I began training as a Somatic Movement Educator in Body-Mind Centering® (BMC®).

My approach to art education is open, free, process-oriented, and experiential. I see movement as a catalyst for a artistic processes of visual creation. The conscious experience of our own bodies enables us to recognize inner impulses and translate them into meaningful artistic choices. In exploring our creativity, we actively find strategies that help us meet challenges and navigate both setbacks and triumphs. This is why creative action is so important for humanity: it is a continuous learning process for life itself.
